The Route 66 Ride calendared for May 18-20 is firming up! I am working on the route, and will have that posted shortly. Here is a tentative itinerary (open to suggestions).
- Leave Friday morning, likely early. As much of Route 66 as we can in California, with a lunch stop at the Bagdad Cafe in Newberry Springs.
- After Needles, we can check out the Old Trails Bridge.
- A stop in Oatman to visit the wild mules.
- Sitgreaves Pass on the way to Kingman.
- Stay Friday night in Kingman at the Best Western Plus Wayfarer. I have 12 rooms set aside for 1-2 people, at $93 + tax. This includes a “hot” breakfast. To make your reservation, call the Best Western directly at (928) 753-6271. Do not go through any of the booking services or even the Best Western website. Mention the SCBMWRC.
- Saturday, continue to Seligman via Route 66. Likely stops include the Kingman Powerhouse, Cool Springs Camp, the Hackberry General Store. There is also Grand Canyon Caverns, but I’ve read mixed reviews on this.
- Overnight in Seligman. Dinner at the Roadkill Cafe, and if there is time, Delgadillo’s Snow Cap Drive-In.
- There are several motels in Seligman, and you can check them out and make your reservations. I believe I will go for the Route 66 Motel myself.
- Sunday—- A couple of options—-we can either ride back home, or there may be those (myself included) who may stick around till Monday and do a little more riding in the area or on the way back.
I’ve been wanting to do this type of ride for some time, as not able to do the last one. Should be a lot of fun!

Hey John this ride looks fun. For your info Cool Springs is after Oatman & about 3 miles east of Sitgreaves Pass and way before reaching Kingman.

Hey John,
Called today for reservation in Kingman but they didn’t have our group in the ‘system’ yet. Manager of the hotel is in tomorrow after 10:30. I will see if I can help sort out the group rate so folks can book. I booked at the Route 66 Motel for 77/night.
Thanks,
B - April 3, 2018 at 7:56 pm #7699
Yeah, I need to make my reservations too. Will call tomorrow and make sure it is all set up. The manager is helpful, but needs some reminding!
- April 4, 2018 at 1:51 pm #7705
Heading back east on route 66 next week. Have a safe and fun time on the ride.
- April 4, 2018 at 2:14 pm #7706
Okay, we’re set up at Kingman. 12 rooms (now 11) for our SCBMWRC rate. I’m also booked at Stagecoach 66 motel in Seligman for Saturday night.
We have till May 7 for the room availability.
And, Dale, have a great trip yourself!
- April 4, 2018 at 6:02 pm #7707
If no one minds, I’d like to tag along. Put me down for one.

Great, Nico—–but you need to call the BW to reserve your room.
- April 5, 2018 at 12:16 pm #7709
Dale – Have fun! I hope the weather is perfect for your trip!

Although I won’t make this ride, I thought I would add my 2 cents on Seligman. Have stayed there no fewer than 10 times over the last serveral years while hunting in the area. Was just there last weekend. Roadkill Cafe food is okay, but the place directly across the street has much better food. I think its Lilo’s West Side Cafe or something along those lines. Both places have cold draft beer! Bar at the Roadkill is cool. The Historic Route 66 Hotel is literally next door to the Road Kill so you can park and walk to both restaurants. Although rooms are not fancy, they are okay and clean. I have stayed down the street at other motels in Seligman, but the location of the Historic Rt 66 is tough to beat…particularly when on a bike if you like to have a beer or three. Caverns motel is less nice than motels in Seligman and pretty far from Seligman on Route 66. And, it is all by itself with few food options. Enjoy the ride!

Hi All,
I reserved a room in Kingman with two queen beds. Total cost $105. Looking for someone to split the room. Let me know if you want to double up.
thanks,
Eric - April 9, 2018 at 3:15 pm #7724
glad to share a room with you Eric if you are still looking for a room mate.
- April 10, 2018 at 9:18 am #7736
I also reserved a room for the 19th at the Route 66 hotel. Best western booked for the preceding night!
- April 14, 2018 at 1:40 pm #7738
Is this the correct Route 66 Hotel address:
21455 W I 40 Business Loop
Paulden, AZ 86337 - April 14, 2018 at 1:54 pm #7740
I tried to pin John down last week, I think this is his motel:
Stagecoach 66 motel at 21455 I-40BL, Seligman, AZ 86337
The Pizza Joint is on the same lot.
- April 15, 2018 at 6:08 pm #7748
Thanks Bill – Even though they’re different cities, I believe they’re the same location.
Anyway – I’m in! 🙂
- April 15, 2018 at 6:16 pm #7749
Looking at google maps Paulden,is about 75 miles south of Seligman on hwy 89
- April 16, 2018 at 6:44 am #7751
To clarify, Stagecoach 66, 21455 West I-40 Business Loop, Seligman, AZ 86337
- April 25, 2018 at 5:07 pm #7781
I booked at Best Western Plus Wayfarer in Kingmen. I want to find out while there is availability at
- Canyon Lodge with 4.7 stars
- Stagecoach 66 with 4.1 stars
where most of the people are staying. From ratings, it makes sense at Canyon Lodge, at similar price of $68. But then I don’t want to be the only one at Canyon Lodge and ride on bike to go to dinner when most or all are staying at Stagecoach and walk across for dinner & drinks.
- April 25, 2018 at 5:12 pm #7782
Eric, your post said you are paying $105, is that correct or a typo? I thing the going prices shouldn’t be too far north of 65 – 75 + tax.
- April 26, 2018 at 8:57 am #7784
To clarify again, I had set aside rooms at the BW Wayfarer in Kingman for Friday night, with a good group rate.
Saturday night in Seligman, wherever you prefer. I don’t believe it’s a big town. - April 29, 2018 at 8:47 am #7801
Jessie! Have you already found a roommate?
- May 1, 2018 at 4:27 pm #7809
Any route plans for this ride yet?
- May 2, 2018 at 11:21 am #7810
Finished the first two days last night, and now the 3rd day.
Day 1—Route 66 east of Amboy is open from what I could find, although Tyre doesn’t think so, but “no restrictions”, so that will shave some miles off.
Day 2 is short, leaving options (maybe ride down to Jerome?).
Day 3. About 400 miles. I-40 is a little faster, but about same miles.
The plan is to meet Friday 18 May at Flo’s at Chino Airport and leave by 8 a.m. Lunch at Bagdad Cafe, and this should leave us some time to look around Oatman.

John – By chance did you create the GPX files from the MyRoute-App on the web?
- May 2, 2018 at 4:44 pm #7822
Tyre
- May 3, 2018 at 5:06 pm #7842
Ron you can save the GPX file to your computer then import it into MyRoute-app, it reads / imports GPX.
- May 4, 2018 at 8:53 am #7850
The initial meetup location is no longer Irv Seavers, but at Flo’s Café now?
- May 4, 2018 at 12:33 pm #7852
Unfortunately, I am no longer able to go on the Route 66 ride. Please take me off the list. I hate it when work gets in the way of fun.

Bill – I know about importing GPX files into MyRoute-App, and I did do that with John’s files. However, when I tried using the Garmin (HERE) map option, I had a heck of a time trying to get it to follow the correct route. So I just ended up importing the GPX files into BaseCamp, and converting them to the Garmin map installed on my PC was no issue. So I basically updated the routes to be compatible with BaseCamp and my Garmin Navigator VI. Now there should be no routing errors, as the maps and routes on my PC are the same on mm GPS.
If anyone’s interested in the Garmin formatted routes for this trip, I’ve attached them here in a single GPX file consisting of a 3 routes for the 3 days. If anyone uses this and finds an issue – please let me know.
And credit is due to John for creating these routes, I just made them more Garmin compatible so there wouldn’t be any routing issues between my PC and my GPS.Attachments:

Ron,
I am going to try to use the MyRoute app connector and see if the waypoints are properly loaded. If they don’t, what I do like about the MyRoute-app is that it is portable and has mobile options. Soon I will replace my GPS with my iPad on my bike haha. I will let you know how the MyRoute app connector works and if it plays friendly with route points. Otherwise, my workaround is to import to BaseCamp.

1) I am going back to paper maps.
2) I am seriously thinking about taking an extra day in AZ (Monday). We can talk about that Friday/Saturday on the road.
3) Ron, I just used Irv’s as a starting point for mileage. Flo’s is THE kickstands-up location, at 8 a.m. sharp.
4) If anyone is going to be late to Flo’s, please let me know. My intention is to actually leave by 8, so pre-ride brief at 7:45 a.m. (I won’t be having breakfast there myself). Can text me at (909) 239-6305.
5) Niko, sorry you can’t make it. Bummer.
6) I’m sure there is something else, but I can’t think of it!
- May 12, 2018 at 11:33 pm #7898
Branden – using the MyRoute app on your iPad seems like a good idea, but what happens when you’re out of cell range? But being able to modify routes on the web, and have them immediately available on the MyRoute app is nice.
I guess I’m one the the few people who doesn’t have an issue with BaseCamp, and think it works well. It did initially take me a little time to learn BaseCamp, but it’s worthwhile to me. There are a lot of YouTube videos on how to use BaseCamp, and a few of them helped me in the beginning.
- May 14, 2018 at 11:16 pm #7903
Hey Ron, if you created maps in Garmin, can you upload in their native format – .gdb
- May 15, 2018 at 8:43 am #7904
Bikram – Why do you need GDB instead of GPX? I’ve always brought in GPX files to my Nav5 and Nav6 devices.
- May 15, 2018 at 5:44 pm #7906
This topic is for the Route 66 ride, not mapping, etc, please, gentlemen. Start a new topic or put it in an existing one. Thanks.

- May 17, 2018 at 9:25 pm #7910
Ron, I think it is going to be a mixed bag depending on our route and elevation. I know I will be starting the day nice and warm. You can always shed layers 🙂
