      It’s almost time for an epic weekend of great riding and beautiful scenery. Due to the anticipated crowds with Hwy 1 recently reopened, we have a housekeeping item pertaining to Saturday lunch that you need to complete before Friday morning. A picnic style lunch at Julia Pfieffer Burns State Park is planned, utilizing a pre-order that Karl Wagner has graciously agreed to pick up and deliver. Thank you Karl!

      Please follow these steps BEFORE you leave on the ride Friday morning:

      *            Go to     http://www.redscooterdeli.com <http://www.redscooterdeli.com>  <http://www.redscooterdeli.com>

      *            Go to Order Pick-up

      *            Select 6th & Spring location

      *            Select Order Pickup button and it will take you to the menu

      *            Place your selections in the Cart

      *            A window will pop-up when you do this and it gives you the option to customize your order. We recommend you request your condiments lime mayo/mustard/etc. on the side.

      *            When you go to check-out there is a selection for “Pick-up tomorrow” – select your date and time of pick-up as Saturday, March 28 at 9:00am

      *            Confirm your order and follow the directions for payment.

      SORRY, NO DRINKS – PLEASE PROVIDE YOUR OWN

      The temperature along Hwy 1 around lunch time is forecast to be around 60 degrees. We recommend you plan accordingly.

      Please also note that table, as opposed to individual, checks are required for the Friday night dinner at The Dutchie. Consider cash or Venmo/Zelle to settle up.

      See you Friday morning.

          It’s nice to see a completely organized, planned and routed ride put up to go on, right from the get go. Makes it very easy for club members to decide if they want to sign up for the trip.  It must have worked… 8 riders already.

          Well done, David Voorhees!

          Keep an eye on  current Highway 1 conditions around Big Sur, they can change from rock slides with weather. Plan on weekend traffic being a lot slower going than when we went mid week, the first week of Feb this year.

          We saw a lot of deer in the central coast mountain portion of the ride… it really kept me covering the front brake with 2 fingers at all times.

          Looking forward to seeing more rides that you set up, David!

          Looks like a good blue print for putting up organized rides on the ride calendar.

                Highway Closure Update!!!

                Caltrans posted that Hwy 1 between Ragged Point and Carmel is now open to one way traffic with traffic light control in place at the recent closure due to debris. They forecast that it would be fully open for 2 way traffic by Marach 13th at 7:00am.

                  We’d only be staying at one hotel for the weekend – the Morro Crest Inn, correct?  I ask because the Sat AM GPX file has us leaving the Bayview Inn?
                  Just want to make sure I’m not missing something.  🙂

                    Ron, One hotel for the weekend. Morro Crest Inn. The file has been corrected and should be posted soon.

                    Thanks for catching this mistake. We were originally going to stay at the Bayview but they did not have enough rooms.

                          For anyone who does not want to get up really early on Friday morning and ride through LA traffic there is a Motel 6 within 3 miles of the meet-up spot for only $77.00 per night for Thursday night on Expedia. It’s not the Ritz Carlton but for one night it’s not bad. There are a number of excellent restaurants within 1/4 mile. If you want to upgrade there are a lot of motels and hotels in the area.

                                  My wife and I will not be able to attend this ride.  My son’s girlfriend is pregnant with our first grandchild and will be induced this coming Thursday.  Sorry to cancel.  I was looking forward to this event.  Have fun!

                                      Eric,

                                      Not everyone lives on this forum, logging in and checking in, for lunch orders.  Maybe send out  a group email to everyone on the ride with a cut and paste link on what they need to do if they want to have something to eat for lunch on Saturday.

                                      Writing this up on the 25th of March is kind of late planning, and a big  unexpected change from the original plan.

                                          the size of the group, surge of visitors to the area and scheduled restaurant not feeling comfortable accommodating us converged. We will persevere…

                                                Wow…just wow. This weekend is right up there with the best rides ever. All three days were EPIC with a mix of faster-paced sweepers, tight technical roads, and some of the most fantastic scenery in the state. We saw weather ranging from low 50s and fog to bright sunny and 80+ degrees.

                                                We split the pack into two groups which made things way more manageable from a lead/sweep perspective and the separation timing (10-15 min) was just about perfect. After-dinner gatherings in the motel parking lot carried the fun well into the evenings, and a good time was had by all. Fun group of people with some new/newer members along.

                                                Tom
