Feb 14-16: Death Valley National Park Weekend Getaway

Hi South Coasters!

Sorry for the late shift but the club will be going to Death Valley in February, not Pinnacles.

It’s been almost a year since we last rode Artists Drive, marveled at the view from Dante’s View, played a round at Devil’s Golf Course, and trudged out to the the lowest point in the US at Badwater Basin. In fact, last time we were there, I took a dip in Badwater lake!

We’ll be staying at our favorite spot: Panamint Springs. They have limited cabin availablity but plenty of camping spots. If you want to stay in a room, go on the website or call the resort at (775)482-7680.

If you are camping, just sign up and we’ll work out the cost later but plan on about $15-20.

Friday will see us running up 395 and making the drop in over the mountains. This route obviously depends on fire openings/closings.

On Sat we will hit all of the hotspots: Dante’s View, Artists Pallete, Badwater Basin, with lunch at the Crowbar Cafe.  Last time I was there, a roadrunner hopped around on the table right outside of our window seat.

I need to bale on Death Valley. We have family coming to town and they didn’t consult with me about my adventure calendar before picking the visit date.  I was looking forward to getting back to riding with my friends.

Howdy Folks!

We have updated the Day 1 route (attached here) to arrive at Panera Bread by 10am, and we’ll be KSU at 10:30 am after the ride briefing.  That will let the roads dry off a bit and give us a little more time to sleep in.  We’ll also be stopping at Classic Burgers in Inyokern for lunch, right before the gas stop.

With this departure update and the stops, we’ll be arriving at Panamint Springs right around 4pm.
