The Early Bird Pricing for this rally ends 4/30. If you are considering going at all check it out.

They are going all out this year and it is in an awesome part of the state for riding that we rarely get to, North of Tahoe to the CA border! Great riding and plenty of national treasures like Lassen Natl Park in the area! -

For those who wish to ride up to Quincy, breaking it into two days, I can lead. We can meet at the Starbucks, 1041 N. Millikin, Ontario, 8 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25, and arrive in Quincy on May 26.
I’m thinking a motel somewhere along the way, as this would make it easier than setting up and taking down. Please let me know if you will be joining this group ride. I’ll have more specifics, but this is a start.

I like to join you lead on Wednesday, May 25, not sure if we can visit the Bristoecone Pine Forest before the overnight stop. There are quite a few motel available at Mammoth or June Lake area.

For those going up the two-day, 395 route, I figure we’ll overnight in Bishop on Wednesday, 25 May. I am booked at the Super 8 in Bishop.
Although the Rally is until 30 May, I am more than likely going to come back on Sunday, May 29, making it a one day ride, seeing that Monday is a holiday, and traffic coming in to So Cal should be lighter than Monday. And, spending Mem Day with the wife!
Re. Bristlecone, that would be tough. An hour there, an hour back, plus at least an hour to check the Pines out. I’ve been there (during the Fall Colors), but that is an option for those who wish, seeing as we are staying in Bishop.

Sunday at the 49er Rally is a pack-up and go day. In fact, the rally officially ends at 11:00 am according to their website.
Like John, Sergio and I don’t want anything to do with Memorial Day Monday traffic when everyone is coming home from the long weekend, so we will be packing up and heading out fairly early on Sunday and going straight home. It’s interesting to note that the ride home via I-5 is 560 miles, via SR-99 it’s 564 miles, and via 395 it’s 566 miles (to central OC) so mileage-wise it’s a wash. The initial plan is to come back via SR-99, but that hasn’t been written in ink yet.
FWIW, Sergio and I will be riding up to the rally in ‘get-there’ mode (I-5) on Thursday. Anyone with similar plans is welcome to join us.

Hey Pete,
The 49er Rally website shows 11am Monday 5/30 as the closing of the rally. That means the closing ceremonies and likely the GS Giants challenge and several other challenges which are good to watch, (or participate in if you like) are on Sunday.
.
Just wanted to clarify, it is a long way up there area great riding in the area, we are going to take full advantage, but understand if you want to miss the Monday traffic.
.
Enjoy the ride, see you there,Karl

Lots of options, but let’s get there and have a great time! Wednesday a.m., I was planning on breakfast at Molly Brown’s near Helendale, on National Trails, it’s pretty good! Copper Top for lunch or dinner, or maybe on the return.

You’re right, Karl. I guess I was getting the 49er and Chief Joseph rallies mixed up.
.
I guess I’ll have to reassess whether I really want to ride home on Sunday or do it on Monday. I dread the holiday traffic, but I’m not sure I want to miss the last whole day of the rally.Hey Pete,

I have to be on a 7am flight to Newark on the 31st and will need to rest up and pack for that trip. I don’t have the option to return Monday so I will return on Sunday.

I’ve been riding motorcycles for 56+ years, but this will be the first time I camp at a rally; either alone or with other club members. So my question is, do the club members try to camp together as a group or is it basically everyone for themselves?
.
Sergio & I will be riding straight up on Thursday and I anticipate arriving at the fairgrounds around 2-3. Any idea when the 2-day group expects to arrive? Is any additional planning necessary?
.
As I’ve mentioned before, I lived right next to the fairgrounds for 12+ years and I’ve been back to Quincy to visit as little as 6 years ago, but it’s been 20 years since I was on fairgrounds property so I can’t be much help suggesting prime places to pitch tents anymore.-

Hey Pete,
Yes, there is usually a primary club camp location the years I have attended at Mariposa. One or two camped on their own for more trees, near other friends, or to camp with the Airheads.
.
This will be a little different with the club arriving in several smaller groups. John sent me the attached map of the fairgrounds with a circle indicating where he is going to try to camp. Perhaps the first one there can find a spot there or another similar spot and text the group.
.
John can clarify when he sees this post.
.
See you up there PeteAttachments:

Hi All,
Covid has knocked me out of this trip. I’m so sad to miss this ride with you all and the 50th NorCal rally, especially after I’ve been to the last four.Although there are no refunds, NorCal sent me this note…
“If you know a person you would like to transfer your registration too, please have them register and let us know and we will transfer your payment to the new registrant.”
So if anyone still wants to sign up, you are already paid for! Give me a call.

Eric,
I too am down with Covid and am out for the count. I signed up for the Rawhyde class at the rally and would rather give away my spot than flush the entire fee down the drain. If any club member is interested in taking my spot on Saturday let me know and I will reach out to Rawhyde and ask if they will transfer. I am not interested any compensation for the class. I’d rather the spot go to a club member. -

Bummers, Sergio and Eric. Will miss you two.
As far as where to pitch, we likely will get at or near the circled area on the map. Whoever arrives first, make yourself visible!
