Dr John’s straightened the rims on my RT in June and I can’t tell they were ever bent. The fellow who does the rim work is a real master.
He did tell me that he can’t do much for most BMW spoked rims, though.
Ric will be at the Moto Adventure Rally preparing for our November General Meeting and lunch, so he has asked me to lead the ride there for those of us who will only be going for the 1st Saturday meeting and lunch. The ride will depart Irv Seaver BMW at 8:00am sharp on Saturday 11/02, but there will be 2 more meet-up points where you can join the ride.
After departing Irv Seaver’s we will head south on I-5 to Ortega Hwy (CA-74) and then east to the junction of Ortega and Antonio Pkwy where we will stop briefly in the Starbucks parking lot in the Sendero Marketplace in Rancho Mission Viejo where South OC members can join us. This is a normal meet-up location for us but if you aren’t familiar with it, the Marketplace is on the NE corner of Ortega Hwy and Antonio Pkwy and there is a gas station there.
From there we will head up and over Ortega Hwy to Lake Elsinore with a brief bathroom stop at the Firefighter Memorial at the summit. Our next meet-up stop will be at the Arco station at the NNW corner of Clinton Keith and Hidden Springs Rd. That intersection is only 500′ from the southbound onramp to I-15.
Our final leg will take us down I-15 to CA-79 to Pechange Pkwy-Pala Temecula Rd to CA-76 to CA-79, through Julian to CA-78 to the Great Southern Overland Stage Route to our final destination at the Stagecoach Trails Campground and RV Park. That’s a lot of tos to remember, but it’s all included in the attached GPX file. No GPS? Then just join us at Irv Seaver’s, Rancho Mission Viejo, or Wildomar and follow me.
• The total route distance is 145 miles.
• KSU at Irv Seaver’s will be 8:00am sharp.
• The Starbucks meet-up time will be 8:30-8:40am.
• The Wildomar meet-up time will be 9:45-9:50am.
• Our target arrival time will be 12-noon.
• Ric says the meeting starts as soon as he gets a sandwich in everyone’s hands.IMPORTANT: Please be gassed-up and ready to ride at the times listed above. Barring traffic delays we should arrive at Stagecoach Trails by noon, but we don’t have time to wait for late riders.

Well I’m not ready for the MOA/Chief Joseph ride yet, but my bike is:
- Full 12,000 mile service including valve train check.
- New valve cover gaskets.
- Safety inspection.
- Cooling system flush & fill.
- New front & rear tires.
- New driveshaft.
Irv’s did the cooling system, tires, driveshaft, and safety inspection and I did everything else.
Now all I have to do is figure out what I want to take on a 4-week long trip and get it packed, and I’ll be ready. I should be able to accomplish that in the next 29 days, don’t you think?
Leaving Tuesday. Full days on Tuesday and Wednesday, half day on Thursday since the rally doesn’t open until Thursday afternoon.
I just turned in my Time Off Request, so we need to stick with this departure schedule. 😎My plans are to make the MOA and Chief Joseph Rallies part of a 3-4 week long journey through California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, and Arizona.
I’ll ride to the MOA with the club, but I’ll be visiting relatives in OR & WA during the week between rallies. After Chief Joseph I’ll be heading east rather than south towards home. I have people to see and places to visit—among them, Yellowstone NP.
I WILL be doing this barring flood, fire, hurricane, plague, or close-proximity nuclear explosions, so you can count me in.
Pete
Thanks Pete and Ed. Should be great! Rain or shine. Rain and shine?
Maybe even some rainbows, yeah? I enjoy a cloudy sky. The clouds give the sky character.I especially like clouds in the morning when we’re riding east and the evening when we’re riding west. That sure beats the sun shining right in our eyes.Oh yeah… Sunglasses! Almost forgot to pack the sunglasses!I’ve been watching the weather forecasts for the routes and destinations for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and it doesn’t look like we will see any rain on Friday or Saturday.
On Sunday we could see some light rain in Laughlin when we depart, no rain through the desert, and then scattered light showers (25-30% chance) through the Inland Empire, Orange and LA Counties.
Steady rain shouldn’t start until Sunday night and that forecast has been pushed back (later) every day. It’s quite possible we won’t have to ride in any rain at all, but it’s wise to remember that Mother Nature doesn’t answer to meteorologists. 😉
A 50% chance of rain means there’s a 50% chance it won’t. 😎
Seriously, there’s a chance of rain on Sunday but the projected amounts are rather small like 1/10 or 2/10 of an inch for when we might be riding through it. This won’t be a gully-washer like they had last year.

ON FRIDAY we will meet at Flo’s Airport Cafe on Merrill Ave at Chino Airport. The ride briefing will be at 8:40 and kickstands-up will be at 9:00 AM. Please arrive with a full tank of fuel and come at least an hour early if you want to have breakfast. Flo’s can be busy in the morning,
Our route will take us east on CA-60 and I-10 to CA-62 (Twentynine Palms Hwy). We will ride north on CA-62 to Yucca Valley where we’ll turn left on Poineertown Rd and ride 4-miles north to Pioneertown. Lunch will be at Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace. Google it for more information. It really is a world-famous venue and it’s shocking how many A-list groups have performed there. Who knew?
After lunch we will continue east on CA-62 to Twentynine Palms where we’ll stop for gas and then head north via some lesser-traveled roads to I-40 and then east to Needles. From there it’s a short 25 mile ride north to the Pioneer Hotel & Casino in Laughlin. Total mileage for Friday’s ride is 270 miles.
ON SATURDAY, KSU will be at 9:00 and our route will take us west from Laughlin on NV-163 to US-95 and then north to Boulder City and Hoover Dam where we will make a couple of photo stops and ride across the dam. From there we will head south on US 93 to the Last Stop Travel Center for gas and then to Kingman AZ where we’ll stop for lunch at Mr D’z Route 66 Diner.
After lunch we’ll head down I-40 to Oatman Hwy and then to Oatman AZ for some sightseeing and a visit with the burros. Then we’ll ride Boundary Cone Rd west to AZ-95 to Bullhead Pkwy then across the River back to Laughlin. Total mileage for Saturday’s ride is 223 miles.
THE SUNDAY RIDE HOME will take us south from Laughlin down Needles Hwy to Needles where we will top off our fuel and then US-95 to Vidal Junction where we will turn right on CA-62. From there we will head west via the Rice Shoe Tree to Twentynine Palms where we will stop for fuel and then the last “official” leg to a final fuel, bathroom, and food stop at the Morongo Casino on I-10 near Banning. From there everyone can plan their routes to their homes or wherever they need to end up. Total miles from Laughlin to the Morongo Casino is 224 miles.
Attached you will find separate GPX files for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Please note that the longest distance between gas stops is 143 miles. See you Friday morning!
I’m signed up, but I’m going to have to take a pass on the ride. I came down with a nasty headcold 8 days ago and while most symptoms have cleared up, I’m still coughing constantly.
And that’s not something I want to do in a helmet.
My RT parked in front of my room at the Pioneer in April 2022. This was on the way back from the Prescott ride. There was a storm expected on Sunday so Paul, Willis and I decided to head home on Saturday via Laughlin.
And the room was adequate. 😉

This is important information for EVERYONE. If you participate in a club ride, whether it’s a GM day ride or a multi-day ride, it’s important that you sign the ride waiver for that ride.
And it doesn’t matter if you want ride points or not. You need to sign the ride waiver. Please ask for it if it doesn’t come to you.
Pete R.
Did you sign the ride waiver, Bill? I’m pretty sure I accounted for everyone who did. Regardless, I’ll get your mileage on the list this evening.Hi, Pete. For some reason, not that it’s important, but I didn’t get credit for my ride to the GM at Farmhouse 78.Quote
