Hey Jesse – just starting to figure out how the Death Valley trip works. First time for me, so I hope you don’t mind if I have a couple questions. When are you planning to go up and come back? I understand some are going as early as Thurs and coming back on Monday, though most are prob Fri-Sun. Are you planning to meet the rest of the South Coasters at the campground every morning for each day’s ride? Are you also planning to do all the meals at the campground? And, did you register already at the Airheads website? I had no idea that one had to register, but Brandon mentioned it at the meeting yesterday
Sounds great and pretty sure I can make it. Are these new dates? It’s in the calendar and on FB for April 17-19
Add one more to this ride, and hotel. A buddy of mine from the New England Riders will be in town and will join us.
I plan to hotel too. Booked the Longstreet Inn & Casino. Appreciate the offer to split a room Jesse, but trust me, I’m not a good roommate!
Looking forward to this ride! I booked the hotels.
FYI… ride list still says “Rt 66 Ride”, but I added my name to it anyway
Brandon’s Nov/Dec newsletter reminded me about the $100 from MOA for each StreetMasters participant. I don’t believe I’ve seen that yet. Is there an update on when/how it will be distributed?
Hey Erasmo, I have the Skene P3 lights. Very happy with them. I use their conspicuity flicker to make them more eye-catching. And I tied the tail-light on my top box into the Skene controller so that it flickers as well.
Skene didn’t have a deceleration option when I bought mine. So I bought a separate unit just for the decelerometer. The unit I bought was the VoloMOD from Volo Lights, which they don’t sell anymore. The VoloMOD does have a sensitivity setting.
If I were to do it again, I’d get the Skene lights with the decelerometer option. Much easier than setting up two controllers (Skene and VoloMOD).
Jim – not sure why, but the example download I tried to attach doesn’t work. Perhaps the forum doesn’t recognize the file type. Happy to send you an example some other way – just let me know.
Hey Jim – tried to download some individual images and the file that got downloaded is a small 1kb file that is not recognizable or viewable as an image. I’ve attached an example of the downloads that I received. I have not tried downloading all the images. Could you test and let me know if it works for you? Thanks, Joe.
Hey John – I believe Nancy said all the pics they took would be put up on the StreetMasters website. Not there yet, and I don’t know when it will happen. But they’ll all be available for download at some point.
THAT was an awesome day! Huge thanks to John and Danny for organizing. Walt and Nancy and the whole Streetmasters team did a great job. Thanks also to StreetMasters, MOA, and Irv Seaver BMW for sponsoring! Oh, and also to Erasmo for leading a ride home on the Angeles Forest Highway so we could put our new skills to work in the twisties!
Big thanks to Brandon Wilson for organizing the weekend! And to Eric Wolf for leading a group of us to the Tioga Pass on Saturday and Angeles Crest Highway on the way home today. Next up: Streetmasters!!
Hey Danny – I’ll meet you at Irv Seaver at 11am and join you for the ride up to Panera
Hey Brandon – thanks for posting all the details and routes! Just want to confirm the meet-up spot for Friday morning. The ride outline Word doc says Building 8 at the airport, which I think is the Planes of Fame Air Museum. The GPX file shows the first waypoint at Flo’s Airport Cafe (Building A315). Can you confirm which is the meet-up spot?
Sounds good – see you at Starbucks
FYI… looks like 330 might re-open tomorrow (Friday) night. Moved here recently, so I don’t know how much one can trust info from Caltrans

For those of us coming over from the hotel – what time will breakfast be served?
Hey Karl,
I’m street riding and staying at the hotel. Paid you for all the meals at Rainbow Oaks on Saturday.
Joe
All the details are here:
Not sure what the latest count is, but looks like at least 4 at the hotel. I booked at the Motel 6 that Ron found.
I did a similar training day with the New England Riders 3 years ago when I lived in Massachusetts. Truly the best thing I ever did. Learned so much about how to handle my bike – definitely made me a better and safer rider. This kind of training is completely different than the typical parking lot course (low-speed skills). Training at speed is a different set of skills and perhaps even more important. Doesn’t matter what you ride. I’ve got a K-bike, but there were RTs, GSs, and an S1000RR in the course I did back east (also HDs, Wings, Victories, Teneres, Concourses, Street Triples, etc!). This training was so valuable, I jumped at the opportunity to do it again with SCBMWRC and StreetMasters. At $212, it’s a bargain. Highly recommended. Sign-up, you won’t regret it!
