I prefer Maduro’s which are a bit stronger than you might like at first. My personal preference is also for a box press which means it is semi square .. just has a better feel to me. Finally, you will find the Region you like best, but I have a very strong preference for Nicaraguan leaf. Most of the Cuban cigar makers opened up farms in Nicaragua after fleeing Castro and/or to get past the US embargo due to it’s similarity to growing in Cuba. I have had some wonderful Cuban cigars, but there is definitely an element of hype to them also based on not being able to get them for so many years. You will quickly find what you like and do not. Here is a Cigar message board called Brothers of the Leaf that will answer any questions you might have. https://www.botl.org/

My favorite shop is Famous Smoke .. here is a link to their page and my favorite cigar. The Padron 1964 Anniversario (just enjoyed one tonight).

The other shop I frequent is called Cigars International and here is a link to Rocky Patel cigars from there. They are a good, consistent mid priced cigar that will not disappoint.

Enjoy Erasmo, I often compare having a good cigar to those who love wine sitting down for a glass of their favorite. It is a relaxing and pleasant way to unwind and enjoy good conversation, peace and quiet, whatever it is that brings you peace and joy.

That was a fun and informative video Eric.

          Update from the Brea compound:
          * Trans for the ‘73 75/5 was returned promptly and exactly at $$ estimate, thank you Irv Seaver’s BMW 👍🏻. Installation complete and I anxiously await a test ride, but first …
          * Cleaning the drive dog splines on the rear wheel and the splines in the final drive prior to applying Guard Dog Moly grease exposed additional spline wear since my last service. Good thing I love this old 75/5 and it is a keeper. Out for repair $$
          * The carburetor bodies for the ‘55 R50 were returned from Bing USA in Kansas Wednesday. Needles and jets NLA from BMW and Irv Seaver’s BMW were received from Bench Mark Works in Mississippi also and carbs were reassembled, bagged and tagged on Thursday.
          * Various hardware items and taps for thread repair on the ‘55 fuel tank arrived Friday and will get attention today.

          Glad to have the projects!

I have to concur with Mark and Karl on this one. I feel the need for 2 wheels as much as any of us but can not in good conscience ignore the rules put in place to do our part in a world wide effort to stop the spread and destruction this pandemic is causing.

I think you are making the right decision also. Bottom line for me is that the reason to stay at home isn’t just personal protection, but also society at large’s protection. Emptier roads and destinations, sanity preservation, reasonably priced fuel, etc. are all valid reasons why 2 wheels may be calling our names. But I will do my part to lessen the possibility of spreading the virus. Of course we should stay home if sick, but we should also consider that a healthy person could spread it through simple acts like transferring germs from a gas pump to the next location they visit. Staying home may also lessen the risk of needing to visit a health care facility for non virus related reasons.

Sorry to preach and I am sure my resolve will be challenged as time rolls on … good call cancelling this ride though, IMHO.

Our General Meeting cancellation is now mandated in Orange County by order of County Health Officer Dr. Nichole Quick. Your BOD will monitor requirements and hopefully we can return to normalcy sooner rather than later.

Stay strong South Coasters, this too shall pass.

                        ** URGENT NOTICE **

With regret, I am going to cancel the Joshua Tree Poker Run in light of the Convid19 virus, restrictions called for today by our State Governor and an abundance of caution. I would have preferred to have waited a bit longer to make the call, but we only have 12 days until the event. Unfortunately, the Joshua Tree Inn has a cancellation policy that only refund if cancelled a full week in advance.

I will be in contact with those of you who pre-paid to determine your preferred method of repayment. I am disappointed to cancel after pulling together what I think would have been a very fun event, but after much thought and consultation with others I believe this is the best call for this event.

                                  *** UPDATE ***

We are getting close to our event. Anyone interested in camping that hasn’t already communicated with Rob Tripp need to do so ASAP. We need to let go of the unused campsites very soon to avoid fees (in addition to the cancellation fees we are already on the hook for.)

I finalized the route yesterday and we end up with a 103 mile loop for Saturday. It will include a poker hand card drawn by each entrant at the start, 3 checkpoints and finish line. Best poker hand will win the $100 gift card graciously donated by Aerostich. One of our club’s senior statesmen (ahmmmm thanks Bill Allen) had a great idea of offering the purchase of an additional card at checkpoint #3 for $5 if entrants aren’t happy with their odds after drawing 4 of their 5 poker hand cards. The Poker Run route will take around 2.5 – 3 hours. Gate drops at 10:00AM with a 9:45AM pre ride meeting at the start location just inside the Joshua Tree National Parks 29 Palms North Entrance Gates. The finish location is the Joshua Tree Inn where we will have tacos, chips & salsa, cold drinks and our awards ceremony. I anticipate this to start around 1:00PM and to disperse whenever. Afterwards we will have a campfire at Bill Allens campsite #23. Since I am bringing my truck, I will bring up some firewood for a group bonfire on Saturday.

We will have some expenses to cover and I plan to do that with a $20 Poker Run entry fee. Each entry fee will purchase a poker hand, a fine dining experience at the Joshua Tree Inn (a bit of sarcasm here, but even I can’t mess up tacos), the after ride ceremony at our Joshua Tree Inn compound, a campfire bench racing session at the Indian Cove campground hosted by Bill Allen on Saturday night and miscellaneous fees (like water for checkpoints, campsite reservations cancellations, food, firewood, etc.) Pre-payment of your entry fee would be appreciated and can be done with me at our General Meeting this Saturday or through Venmo at @Christopher-Roady or at [email protected]. Sign ups in Joshua Tree will be $25, so pre-register and save 20% 😉

OK, looks like the Happy Wife/Happy Life group is growing. While I won’t attribute that reason to anyone but myself, the group is now 3. We will meet at the Starbucks off of the 15 freeway North of the 60 on E. Jurupa @ 8:00AM with KSU shortly thereafter. Two Airheads at this time, so the pace will be a bit more leisurely than Fridays crew I am guessing.

Please let me know if you would like to ride up with us … any and all are welcome.
