I heard back from Panamint Springs also, but frankly I don’t know how to respond to them since I am hesitant to specify what “type”of rooms any of you might be interested in. I’m going to see if they can just hold us 6 rooms (without specifying the types) and assume others will camp … I think as long as reservations for Friday are made early enough, it shouldn’t be an issue … anyone that waits to long can just Camp at another members site perhaps.

      Hello Chris Roady,

Thank you for contacting Panamint Springs Resort! Depending on which room types and campground sites you would prefer, I can block these units out for you under the name of “SCBMWRC” and set up a password for your group so that they may contact our front desk either by phone at 775-482-7680 or by e-mailing me directly at [email protected] to reserve the rooms or sites under their individual names. We have the following units available for January 19, 2018, of which I have included the rates as well:

3 Rooms available with one queen bed rent for $74.00 + tax ($82.88) each, per night
6 Rooms available with 2 Beds (1 Queen, 1 Double) rent for $89.00 + tax ($99.68) each, per night
2 Rooms available with 3 Beds (1 Queen, 2 Doubles) rent for $104.00 + tax ($116.48) each, per night
The cottage suite (with a queen bed in one room, and a full and a twin in bunk-bed style in the other) rents for $144.00 + tax ($161.28), per night
6 Cabins with one queen bed and outside porch and grilling area rent for $89.00 + tax ($99.68) each, per night
1 Cabin with one King bed and outside porch and grilling area rent for $99.00 + tax ($110.88), per night
1 Cabin with two twin beds in bunk style and one double bed and outside porch and grilling area rent for $104.00 + tax ($116.48), per night

For our campground sites, we do not add tax to the reservation total:
6 RV Full Hook-up Sites for $35.00 each, per night
9 RV Dry Sites for $20.00 each, per night
2 Large Tent Cabins for $50.00 each, per night
7 Small Tent Cabins for $35.00 each, per night
21 Standard Tent Sites for $10.00 each, per night

We can hold the rooms until two weeks prior to the check-in date, which would be January 5, 2018, and then release the remaining rooms back to the public. Please let me know how you would like to proceed with these reservations, as we would love to have you all stay with us!

      Best Regards,

          * Update *
I heard back from Tecopa Hot Springs:

          Hi Chris,
Nice to hear from you. Look forward to hosting your group again.

January 20 is a Saturday and a busy time. Weather permitting there will be music on stage, Bistro open and fun. Rooms are $95 plus tax for one or two people and $10 plus tax per extra person. There are rooms with 2 queen beds and a few with 1 king bed. We generally fill up so hard to offer discount on weekend night. Still a great deal in our opinion. I can block rooms for you and folks can call to reserve room or they can book on line or by calling 760 852 4420. There is a 72 hour cancellation policy so plenty of time to back out if need be.

Office hours are generally noon – 5pm. If on line booking there is a preference section they can enter your group SCBMWRC. I can move people around later if need be. FYI rooms 13 – 8 are the south side of the motel. 14 – 19 are on the north side.

Based on this, I would suggest booking sooner rather than later (I have already reserved room #11) with the knowledge that you can cancel within 72 hours of the ride if something comes up. Im going to book Panamint Springs now also, even though I have not heard back from my inquiry to them.

Sounds wonderful to me Mark, but probably not so much to my non-riding better half …. Perhaps a singing telegram from Kernville after a few 😉

Not “done” Dave, just going up from $10 to $80 after 8/28/17. Oh wait, I understand now … “done” meaning you have yours 👍🏻

Long Beach used to give a loaner regardless of where you purchased or warranty status, but changed their policy a few years ago to only providing one if you purchased from them. I don’t know if it has an under warranty clause as well. I took my ’08 RT, that I purchased private party in Sacramento, in for service there a few times and always got one several years ago.

                          John or Karl,
Could one of you post the final number of funds donated by SCBMWRC, from the picnic and from the rally participants? Really cool how our club stepped up to the challenge 👍🏻

Gonna be warm in SLC, I would imagine that is on many of your minds as well. Karl, David E and I have been talking about how nice it would be to have some shade in our group campsite. I have found a cheap 10’x20′ carport type shade on Amazon for a little less than $100. I am going to order one from the road on Monday for 2 day delivery to the campsite on Wednesday. It should be a nice addition to our club campsite! Thought those going would like to know there will be some shade if everything goes as planned.

I’m still going to leave the OC on Thursday morning, 7/6. As far as route, I will revert to my old stand-by of looking at the Butler map in the morning over coffee & breakfast each day to figure it out. No real criteria other than rolling into SLC on 7/13 and getting home by 7/20 +/-

I’m going to try and camp more than my usual goal of 50% camping / 50% hoteling on this trip.

Just received a Colorado Coolvest and plan to do a ride tomorrow to check out the effectiveness. They also have a neck wrap with the same type bead system as the vest (they have a bead system sewn into the gear that absorb water and release coolness via your gear venting as you ride).

Good point on hydrating Jacob. I attempt to drink additional water the day before riding and always ride with a camelback bladder with drink tube, in the bottom portion of my tank bag for on the fly hydrating.

With the wicked weather we’ve been experiencing, I am going to follow John’s lead and keep my ride more West Coast based … just doesn’t seem like a good time to spend the numerous days in AZ & NM. New route pending.

Exactly my thoughts when reading this Mark. The RT has such good airflow management that I think it changes the articles conclusions somewhat. The article clarifies one of the assumptions is a naked bike with direct high speed air flow onto vented gear.

Bikram, I did a trip through the area last July on my way back from a ride up to Canada. The Flats are only a few hours away from SLC as I recall.

As soon as I got to the point where the pavement ends and the salt begins a couple of vehicles pulled onto the pavement and were COVERED with salt … in the wheel wells, on the sides of the paint, etc. I decided then and there that I wasn’t getting all that salt on my bike. I made a speed run on the pavement that runs along a portion of the Flats, visited the little store and went to SLC. I’m glad I went, but would think twice about exposing your bike to all that salt so far from a quick deep clean.
