We are putting Laughlin back on the schedule for January 2024. We canceled this ride last year due to weather. Pete R. and Ed T are going to make sure, weather permitting, that this will be a fun ride. The Oatman burros are waiting for us.
We have reserved a block of rooms at the Pioneer Hotel. They are all double occupancy and the rate for the two days is $155.26 that’s with the tax. They do take a refundable security deposit of $75. To make a reservation call 800-634-3469. Mention the group BMW 2024.

Love it! Thanks Ed and Pete. I’m looking forward to it.
When we did this ride 4 (or so) years ago, I rode pillion behind Brandon on his K1600 due to a number of circumstances. What an experience wrapping my arms around him ???!!!!

Laughlin
Last time we did this we booked at the New Pioneer Casino When I asked members about the hotel, the general consensus was “Its adequate”
Friends have suggested the River Lodge in Laughlin.
Does anyone have “local knowledge” or a preference? The River lodge has covered parking. And discounted room rates if you book 10 rooms+ . That’s probably offered everywhere.
Scrolling through the pictures of the River Lodge, one picture is of a double room with the beds not made up. I wonder who would let that slip by.
I do have a calls into both locations waiting for an answer on group reservations.

The nice thing about the Pioneer, ask for a ground floor room and your bike is right outside . Makes it easy to load /unload.
The River Lodge is on a hill above the rest of the hotels & river walk. A long trek to see the action. -

Bill, Thanks that helps. River Lodge has quoted room rates at 38 a night. Waiting on Pioneer to get back with me. I agree Pioneer sounds much more convenient.

My RT parked in front of my room at the Pioneer in April 2022. This was on the way back from the Prescott ride. There was a storm expected on Sunday so Paul, Willis and I decided to head home on Saturday via Laughlin.
And the room was adequate. 😉

Thanks Pete, We get another shot at the “adequate” Pioneer in 2024. At least the Pioneer run by nice people.

I am looking forward to this ride with the burros, though I hope it is not like running with the bulls!
FYI Ed, it looks like you have two forums running for this event.

Looking to see if anyone going on the Laughlin ride wants to share a room and the costs. I just signed up but wanted to see if there was any interest in sharing before I booked anything. Let me know.

Looking forward to Laughlin. I am driving (Car) to Cottonwood AZ. tomorrow. I am planning on driving Highway 62 (Rice Road) to see how boring it really is. Several have suggested we take 62 on our way to Laughlin. This is a great road for people who appreciate lonely deserted highway. And don’t forget the SHOE Art.
And the tasty local snack, Salted Burro Ears in Oatman

Hello Ed
62 is not bad at all, at least you can stop at Chiariaco Summit to gas up and check out tank boneyard AKA General Patton Tank Museum. You also have Rice Shoes Fence, Parker Dam, London Bridge and the beginning of route 66 signage.

Thanks for the input Tony, although, can we just forget the shoe tree 🙂 It took me about 20 minutes to get my dang shoes to hook up there last time. Embarrassing! How hard can it be?!

January 11, 2024 at 11:53 am #21991
Maybe it’s a sign that you need to keep your shoes. 🤔
-
January 11, 2024 at 3:40 pm #21995
LOL, it takes practice to be perfect and let’s do it for once more time Eric and may be it is a sign you should keep your old shoes. Either way, I will see you on the ride.

ON FRIDAY we will meet at Flo’s Airport Cafe on Merrill Ave at Chino Airport. The ride briefing will be at 8:40 and kickstands-up will be at 9:00 AM. Please arrive with a full tank of fuel and come at least an hour early if you want to have breakfast. Flo’s can be busy in the morning,
Our route will take us east on CA-60 and I-10 to CA-62 (Twentynine Palms Hwy). We will ride north on CA-62 to Yucca Valley where we’ll turn left on Poineertown Rd and ride 4-miles north to Pioneertown. Lunch will be at Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace. Google it for more information. It really is a world-famous venue and it’s shocking how many A-list groups have performed there. Who knew?
After lunch we will continue east on CA-62 to Twentynine Palms where we’ll stop for gas and then head north via some lesser-traveled roads to I-40 and then east to Needles. From there it’s a short 25 mile ride north to the Pioneer Hotel & Casino in Laughlin. Total mileage for Friday’s ride is 270 miles.
ON SATURDAY, KSU will be at 9:00 and our route will take us west from Laughlin on NV-163 to US-95 and then north to Boulder City and Hoover Dam where we will make a couple of photo stops and ride across the dam. From there we will head south on US 93 to the Last Stop Travel Center for gas and then to Kingman AZ where we’ll stop for lunch at Mr D’z Route 66 Diner.
After lunch we’ll head down I-40 to Oatman Hwy and then to Oatman AZ for some sightseeing and a visit with the burros. Then we’ll ride Boundary Cone Rd west to AZ-95 to Bullhead Pkwy then across the River back to Laughlin. Total mileage for Saturday’s ride is 223 miles.
THE SUNDAY RIDE HOME will take us south from Laughlin down Needles Hwy to Needles where we will top off our fuel and then US-95 to Vidal Junction where we will turn right on CA-62. From there we will head west via the Rice Shoe Tree to Twentynine Palms where we will stop for fuel and then the last “official” leg to a final fuel, bathroom, and food stop at the Morongo Casino on I-10 near Banning. From there everyone can plan their routes to their homes or wherever they need to end up. Total miles from Laughlin to the Morongo Casino is 224 miles.
Attached you will find separate GPX files for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Please note that the longest distance between gas stops is 143 miles. See you Friday morning!

I promised sunshine for the Laughlin ride. I may have over promised. Looks like rain is projected at 50% for the ride back Sunday. Just be ready for a little liquid sunshine Sunday. It just adds to the adventure.. right?
-
January 16, 2024 at 12:55 pm #22044
A 50% chance of rain means there’s a 50% chance it won’t. 😎
Seriously, there’s a chance of rain on Sunday but the projected amounts are rather small like 1/10 or 2/10 of an inch for when we might be riding through it. This won’t be a gully-washer like they had last year.

No sir, I expect you to ride close and hold an umbrella over me the whole ride back! 😛
A promise is a promise!!!

well.. It may rain a little on Sunday. Bring your raincoat is you have one.
Seriously though, Watching the weather report, and will continue watching up to Friday. Unless the projections get much worse, we are on. What’s a little weather to us South Coasters! We made it through Hurricane Hillary.

I’ve been watching the weather forecasts for the routes and destinations for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and it doesn’t look like we will see any rain on Friday or Saturday.
On Sunday we could see some light rain in Laughlin when we depart, no rain through the desert, and then scattered light showers (25-30% chance) through the Inland Empire, Orange and LA Counties.
Steady rain shouldn’t start until Sunday night and that forecast has been pushed back (later) every day. It’s quite possible we won’t have to ride in any rain at all, but it’s wise to remember that Mother Nature doesn’t answer to meteorologists. 😉

Maybe even some rainbows, yeah? I enjoy a cloudy sky. The clouds give the sky character.I especially like clouds in the morning when we’re riding east and the evening when we’re riding west. That sure beats the sun shining right in our eyes.Oh yeah… Sunglasses! Almost forgot to pack the sunglasses!
