NorCal Back County Discovery Route (BDR): Sept 3-14

The South Coasters will ride the Northern California BDR, Sep 3-14.

What is a BDR? The Northern-California Backcountry Discovery Route (CABDR-North) is a 940-mile, off-pavement route designed for adventure motorcycles. Starting in Mammoth Lakes, CA atop Minaret Vista, you’ll traverse the Great Sierra Nevada Range’s conifer forests, mountain meadows, and gentle slopes, concluding in the high desert of the Modoc Plateau just north of Alturas, CA at the Oregon border.  Ride blissful forested two-tracks, tackle rugged canyon and mountain roads, and ascend peaks to fire lookouts with unparalleled views. Explore quaint towns nestled in the High Sierra’s folds, with historic inns dating back to the 1880s. Beyond the thrill of the twisty roads and scenic vistas, you can delve into California history, discover relics of mining towns, and witness geological wonders. The route caters to riders of varying skill levels and offers optional challenging sections plus three expert segments. 

Block off the time now. We will arrive in Mammoth the night of Wed, Sep 3 and start the trek the following day ending at the Oregon on Fri, Sep 12. Return to SoCal on Sat and Sun, Sep 13 and 14. 

Ric M has offered to chase with a support vehicle and motorcycle trailer. We will ride unencumbered. Ric will sag our gear, provide rescue, and has offered to cook for the group as we travel. There is no easier way to ride the BDR!

Ryan G is our ride leader and ADV instructor. He is hosting day and weekend training events on various terrain from now until we depart for the BDR.  Check the Events calendar for training locations.  You will be evaluated to see if you are ready for this ride but don’t worry; there is still plenty of time to train.
