Hi Ryan and South Coasters,
I just registered, beginning the GS team. Now, I’m no experienced GS offroad rider–any of you who’ve ridden in the dirt with me have undoubtedly picked my bike up! Nonetheless, I’m going to give it a try, finding the mildest roads I can. I need a group of 3-4 riders to join me. (Ryan will also be leading a road-oriented (RT) group. No dirt included and he is also looking for teammates).
Reply to this post to let me know and sign up on the event link.
Here is the info on cost and registration:
https://www.advrally.com/julian/
– If joining me, add “South Coasters GS” in the Team Name field
– 4-day event pass $255. That includes breakfast and dinner for the entire 4-day event. Otherwise, it’s $100 to register.
– tent camping on site $80. There are other options for hoteling or RVing.
– handling fee $10.05

Thanks for the update Steve. Dinner with the South Coasters is an added treat. Darn, we won’t get to eat re-hydrated camp food.
Speaking of that, we still have plenty of room around the campfire. The price of admission is a sipping cocktail.
If you want to camp, please note that in this thread so that I can keep a count.
I agree. These issues are super fun and entertaining. Sergio, you had me laughing out loud 8>)
Just catching up. Great details and history Ric, thanks.
Thanks Ron,
I’ve never paired my sena or phone to the bike. Instead, I just paired them together. But I’ll try it with this new sena and see how it works.
Awesome Pete, and I promise that your tent won’t blow away in the middle of the night…with you in it!!!
Gary, thanks for sharing your experience. I’ll have to talk to you or Ron about how to pair with the wonder wheel. I also noticed a difference between the 20s and 50s speakers. That was nice. I’ve ordered the 30K directly from Sena using the 20% military discount.
Does the 30K work with the wheel, I wonder? (Did you see what I did there 😉
Dan, thanks for a thorough telling of the issues and workarounds you’ve found. This discussion has been good. I’m definitely learning a lot from you guys.
Looks like everyone had a great time!
Cool, thanks Ric
Thanks for checking in Ric! Yes, we have two sites booked.
South Coasters, We can have 8 people per site so we still have plenty of room. Come join us for fall camping in the cool SoCal mountains. If you are interested, respond to this post and let me know that you’re camping. I’d like to get a good headcount. Thanks
I hope everyone made it home safely. Look forward to hearing about the trip!
Thanks everyone for your thoughts/help. I decided on the 30K since I already have the upgraded speakers. This way I can still bluetooth pair with 20’s and with my phone.
But…, I could save a lot of energy, time, and space with this.

Thanks Ron. I have a general rule that I don’t try to combine multiple technologies in one device: let the communicator do the thing it is good at and reserve hear protection for the helmet.
I’m curious what others think of this general concept?
The discount when buying directly from Sena is 20%, pretty significant. They use ID.me to authenticate your military service and you add that in at checkout when you make an online order. I’ll call them tomorrow to get a better understanding of the difference between 50S ($359), 30K ($299), and Spider ($219). Amounts are list price, before 20% discount.
Thanks Steve and Ron,
I did not know that you could control the sena with the wonder wheel. That would have been handy. I’ll check with sena to see how much the discount is. Thanks again.
Anyone else have experience with the spider?
Thanks Ric, I’ll add you to my planning email list.
The ROL is coming up fast, Sept 1-4, so if you are interested in going, please let me know. If you are even curious, I’ll add you to my email planning list that I’m starting today.
Thanks for staying on top of this Sergio. I know your plate is already pretty full.
I’ve yet to take the Hawthorne course. I’ve been to two others, including Coronado, but not the ‘mother course’ in Hawthorne.
You couldn’t ask for a more scenic spot–and cooler temps–than the CPD teaching. It’s held right on the strand. Definitely worth a trip to San Diego. Take your sunscreen though.
