Tioga pass and Yosemite National Park entry requires a 3-day reservation/pass that costs a whopping $2.00 and it is valid for three days, starting with the first day of entry to the national park. You can reserves yours to be able to ride Tioga pass and enter the park at:
https://www.recreation.gov/timed…/10086745/ticket/10086746As of April 9th, there are 482 passes available for our dates so I highly suggest to reserve your spot rather sooner than later.

I made my reservation last night for June 9-11. When I did there were significantly less then 400 motorcycle reservations left in that time frame and the June 10-12 reservations won’t be available until June 6.
THIS IS IMPORTANT, PEOPLE: If you’re going on the 7-Passes ride you need to make your reservations, and you should do it sooner than later. And as Erasmo wrote, it doesn’t matter what kind of pass you have. You still need a reservation.

Henry, All,
Thanks for the info re Yosemite day use passes. Let’s keep getting the word out. FYI, I’ve updated the calendar event with the latest planning. I’ll post that on this thread also. -
April 16, 2022 at 12:31 pm #15501
UPDATED: The Seven Passes Ride will require staging in Kernville on Thursday night, June 9th. We will spend the next two days riding the passes and end in South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, June 11th. Ride home on Sunday… or, stand by for more planning if you want to go on to the Chief Joseph Rally in Oregon.
Thursday lodging will be at the Kernville Inn or, there are several campgrounds on the river.
Our Friday ride will traverse 1) Sherman and 2) Tiaoga Passes. NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE A $2 DAY-USE ENTRY PASS FOR YOSEMITE IN ADDITION TO YOUR PARK PASS. Get your entry pass here. We’ll end Friday in Sonora. There are several hotels/motels in the city but camping is limited.
On Saturday, we’ll top out 3) Sonora, 4) Monitor, 5) Ebbets, 6) Carson, and 7) Luther Passes before ending the day in South Lake Tahoe. Again, there are numerous lodgings in the city. Camping is limited to the city campground.
More details about group reservations and routes will be posted soon.

to camp at our house in Confidence. We’re 12 miles up the 108, on the Saturday route. -
April 19, 2022 at 7:49 am #15513
Rob, thanks for the offer!
Rob also recommends staying up in Twain Harte. It is 10 degrees cooler up Hwy 108 at 4000 ft. He recommends the Wildwood Inn at Twain Harte, and says there are a few good eateries; a burger joint, Mexican and Steak house, as well as a great breakfast diner.-
April 20, 2022 at 7:53 am #15522
Are we changing the stop to Twain Harte instead of Sonora?

I hope you folks enjoy the ride. As you do this ride, think to yourself “This is Bill Allen’s preferred route from L.A. to South Lake Tahoe” :-). To me, this ride is the American equivalent of Paso del Stelvio going from Northern Italy to Southern Austria (or vice versa).
Be careful on Sherman Pass. It’s pretty technical and the road is not in great shape unless Cal Trans has done some work on it. Lots of gravel that looks EXACTY like the pavement. Deer waiting among the trees just waiting to jump out at you. Nine Mile Canyon is sweet! At the top, if the weather is clear enough (about 5 days a year), you might get a glimpse of Mt. Whitney.
My favorite is Sonora Pass. Not quite as technical as Ebbets and the road is a little wider. That being said, I LOVE Ebbets, but you must have your wits about you. Sometimes, the road is blocked because an 18 wheeler thought he could take a shortcut through the Sierras. In some places, the road is so narrow, there is no center stripe!
One of the jewels is Monitor Pass. It’s short, but very scenic and a very nice road.
Be careful on Tioga. The speed limit is 45 and it’s patrolled by radar enabled park rangers. DAMHIK. -

Hi All,
I apologize for introducing confusion to the Sonora stopover. I was just passing alone an option recommended by Rob Tripp. Twain Harte is 12 miles up the road from Sonora and closer to Rob’s house. Nonetheless, I am still staying at the Gunn House in Sonora. Give me a call if you have questions, 949 636-4769. -

Thought I would throw out some information om accommodations and plans for the ride. This is what 5 of us that are going on the ride are doing:
– Thursday night – Kernville Inn – room with 2 beds $136.74
– Friday night – Gunn House in Sonora- room with 2 beds $149.05
– Saturday night – Days Inn by Wyndham in South Lake Tahoe -2 beds – $167.91
– All prices include the taxes, etc. and are for 2 people. Single rooms are available at a lower cost per night. We are sharing rooms so the cost is not too bad. Found the best pricing on Expedia.
A couple of us that are not going to Oregon are going to break the 450 mile ride home into 2 days spending Sunday night in Bishop. Planning on a fairly early start on Monday so we should be home by 1:00pm. Anyone is welcome to join us. We are staying at the Bishop 395 Inn (used to be the Red Roof Inn) on Sunday night. We stayed here on the Fall Colors Ride.
$148 inclusive for a single room. -
April 25, 2022 at 10:09 pm #15538
Made all reservations to all suggested locations except on the way back I will be staying at Super 8 by Wynham Bishop for lesser price. Would like to join your group coming back from Lake Tahoe, Steve.

On Thursday night I’ll be staying in a bungalow at the Kern Lodge ($95.40) and on Friday night I’m booked at the Gunn House ($144.48).
On Sunday I’m heading north from Tahoe to the Chief Joseph Rally in John Day Oregon via stops in Reno NV and Eagle ID to see friends and family, so I’ll be spending Saturday night in Reno.
It’s possible that I might try to make an Iron Butt Saddlesore 1000 ride out of my ride home from John Day after the rally. There are a lot of “ifs” and “whethers” clouding that idea, though.

Gilbert, we are happy to have you join us on the Sunday ride to Bishop. As they say….the more the merrier!!!!
The ride from South Lake Tahoe to Orange County (Irv Seavers) is 450 miles.
On Sunday we will most likely take a couple of side routes off 395 and have a casual lunch in Mammoth. Any recommendations for the route are welcome. I thought we would head back-up Hwy 50 to Hwy 89 thru Markleeville to 395 and then to Mammoth. More to come!!!!
Any one else??? All are welcome!!!!

I followed Steve Leo’s suggestion and booked the hotel rooms he suggested with the exception of the Gunn House. I booked at the Heritage Inn next door. Just had a poor experience the last time I stayed at the Gunn House.
I also booked the Creekside Inn in Bishop for Sunday night as I did not want to do the 10 -11 hours from Tahoe to Mission Viejo.
Bill Allen introduced me to this ride several years ago. I think I have ridden it about 4 times now. His observation about the Sherman pass rode was also my experience. (Slow and Easy) would be my recommendation. I believe the Ebbets Pass (Hwy 4) has been repaved a few years ago, but it is still a narrow road.
One of the options to Kernville is the Caliente Bodfish Road off of Hwy 58. It is definitely a “back country” road and requires care and attention. It is an alternative to riding into Bakersfield taking Hwy 155 from Bakersfield.
In Mojave there is a restaurant (Voyager) that is right on or nearly on the flight line. it is an interesting lunch stop.
Just some observations. -

There are only 239 passes left for June 8th on the Yosemite Reservation site. If you have the slightest idea you might go on the ride I would suggest spending the $2.00 and purchasing your pass now. There are only 239 passes left on the 8th and the 9th & 10th are sold out. The pass is good for 3 days and so it will work as we are going thru the Park on the 10th.

Looking at these passes I see that a “photo ID will be required” and “tickets cannot be sold, auctioned or transferred.” I don’t know whether that will actually be enforced, but it might be a mistake to assume that anyone will be able to get through the park with someone else’s pass.

For those of you returning on Sunday to Bishop and then home on Monday, I have had a request to go through Body.We can discuss the final route on the ride.
It adds quite a bit of time to the trip so we would have to have KSU at 8:00 instead of 9:00 and we would skip the June Lake Loop.
Here is a GPX on the route option.
