Who is up for a ride to Tecate and walk over the border for lunch? I’m looking at this for Saturday 28 January.

I’m pretty busy right now, but will have a route posted in the next several days. Also, we might be dependent on the weather, but so far, we’ve done good on our riding days!

Sounds like a fun ride. Too bad I’ll be in Mammoth, so I regretfully won’t be able to make it.
Please take lots of pics for the Newsletter! -

As a reminder, a passport will be needed (I’ve never had a passport, and just recently got mine)!

Can you get a 1-day motorcycle insurance prior to entering Mexico? It is mandatory. I might be in.

You may not require insurance for walking…

Thanks David. I didn’t see that. Was reading this on a phone while still in bed. Ok, you are right, no insurance required for walking.

Here are the tentative routes there and back starting from Lake Elsinore. Not real imaginative, but somewhat direct there, and we can alter the way back as needed.

I know you aren’t riding over the Sunrise Hwy (Laguna Mtn Lodge) but they are saying the road is in poor to fair condition due to ice so always carry chains if coming to visit. There has been quite a bit of snow up there. Check their Facebook page.

In the news – Ortega highway is closed as of 25 January both directions for estimated three weeks. Storm damage.

NEW MEETING POINT !!
John & I just talked and to make it easier for the south county boys the NEW MEETING SPOT is the Mobil Gas station at the Old Hwy 395 & Hwy 76 intersection. Leave time is now 0930. If coming down the I-15 exit at #46 to Hwy 76, turn right and the Mobil station is on the right. Those coming down I-5 take 76 east and the Mobil will be on the left just before crossing I-15.

John,
What time do you plan on being in Tecate and where? Robin and I are thinking of meeting the group there in Tecate.

I don’t think we have a restaurant picked out, but it will probably be around the town center square, around the big Tecate sign in the park. You can call me when you get there – 323-229-3134. I don’t know what time, but KSU at 9:30, and maybe 2-3 hours ride.

Ric,
Okay let me ask the question a different way. Is the group coming down I-15 to I-5 to Hwy 94 (E)? If so, we can wait for you on Hwy 94 somewhere?

Vern, we were planning on coming down the 79 via Julian, then Pine Valley to Campo, thence to Tecate. We’ll likely be going back via 94. Probably close to 12 when we get to Tecate, go back from that to Campo, Pine Valley, etc.
Here is revised route:

Hey John and Rick – Thanks for planning such a GREAT ride for us today. Street tacos were yummy and the day was so perfect…with a bit of thermal cycling! Nice to see the snow in the *sides* of the road.

I really doubt the ride took place at all today given Ortega hwy was closed. Send proof to the contrary to [email protected]

Was a great ride, thanks all for being there!
