South Coasters!
The club will be leading a ride to the MOA National Rally in Redmond OR coming up this June. The rally days are Thursday, June 13th through Sunday, June 16th. In order to get there and back, we’ll need about a week.
There is another famous rally, The Chief Joseph, the following weekend, June 20-23, in John Day OR. So, there is an option of extending this into a two-week trip.
I took an informal poll at our last GM to gauge interest. Of the 25+ folks there, 6 were interested in one week and another six in two weeks. That’s great! Many of us have found memories of extend club rides to Nashville and Montana for MOA Rallies past.
If you have any interest in going–no need to commit at this point, simply interest–then respond to this post. I’m gathering names and in the very near future I will host a couple of zoom meetings to flesh out the route, expectations, and solidify things.

Hey Eric,
This year we are making the MOA and Chief Joseph Rallies part of a longer trip and will be in the RV, (go ahead give it to me, I am expecting it..). If you like we can bring a limited amount of club items to lighten the load, banner, tarp, and the like. We will be at both rallies for the week.
Karl & Sharon-
That’s great news. I was thinking that dirt might be in the cards at some point on this trip and I always feel better knowing that you’ll rescue me 🙂
How about packing a couple of easy-ups?
thanks

Just curious about the route to get to Redmond OR from here. How many days?
-
Erasmo,
It’s 865 miles directly by freeway. Two reasonable days of travel each way with 3 days at the rally. I’m trying to keep it to one week but haven’t made any hard decisions until I see who signs up and what their preferences are. I’m assuming that you need to keep it short. Is that right?
-
-
I was thinking on taking the coastal route on the way back, so likely it would be more than a week total, since I haven’t ridden the northern part of California.
So, are you thinking on stopping somewhere in the middle on the way up? Say past Sacramento? And then ride from there straight to Redmond?
-
Are most people going to stay in a hotel or do the tent camping?
-
These are all great questions!
I say again: if there are any members out there who have interest, sign up on the event link and post yourself here. Soon, I’ll get a zoom meeting together where we can chop through all of this and get a good idea of everyone’s interests regarding camping/hotel, route, # of days, etc.
Likely camping on the way and certainly at the rally. I know there are some who don’t camp. No problem; we’ll work through it.
We have 2.5 days to get there since the rally doesn’t open until Thursday afternoon so that takes a bit of pressure off.
-
Hey Eric!
I’m very interested in attending this event but I’m not 100 percent sure I’m going to make it happen. I’d like to be included in the Zoom meeting so that I can get some insight on the plans. Thanks!

I am very interested in attending. Looking forward to this event being on our side of the map.
One heck of a beautiful ride.Eric Wolf wrote:

I’ve got you down Jessie. Glad you’re coming.
Leaving Tuesday. Full days on Tuesday and Wednesday, half day on Thursday since the rally doesn’t open until Thursday afternoon.

Eric, please include me for the MOA Rally. I’ve already registered with the MOA. I’m also interested in doing the Chief Joseph Rally, so a 2-week trip works for me. I’m in for camping all the way for both events. Super looking forward to some epic riding with the Club!
Thx, /carl

Eric,
I’m interested, but I’m not planning on camping, so I would need info as to where the stops are so that I can arrange for Hotels.
Thanks
-
Thanks Erasmo,
I’ve got you down. We’ll be holding a couple of zoom meetings. More info to follow on the route and stops along the way but you should definitely book your room in Redmond ASAP.

Eric,
I am interested going to both event! The KOA campgrounds might be a good options for member prefer either tent camping or get a cabin at same location. There are many of them along the Coastal California and Oregon area.

Thanks Willis, good info.
Also, it’s good to know that you’ll be driving/trailering. Can you take another bike or two? Gear? People?
-
The uhaul trailer only has one motorcycle choke in the front, I will be glad to take some people (3)!

My plans are to make the MOA and Chief Joseph Rallies part of a 3-4 week long journey through California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, and Arizona.
I’ll ride to the MOA with the club, but I’ll be visiting relatives in OR & WA during the week between rallies. After Chief Joseph I’ll be heading east rather than south towards home. I have people to see and places to visit—among them, Yellowstone NP.
I WILL be doing this barring flood, fire, hurricane, plague, or close-proximity nuclear explosions, so you can count me in.

I just turned in my Time Off Request, so we need to stick with this departure schedule. 😎-
I’ve got you down Pete, thanks.

Hi All!
So far we have 7 on the one-week agenda and 7 on the two-week agenda, with three people driving/trailering. Awesome! Thanks for the interest.
Ric and I are working on routes up and have scheduled zoom meetings for Sunday, Feb 25th, at 2:00 in the afternoon, and Monday, Feb 26th, in the evening at 7:00 pm. I’ll send the zoom link later but please block off your calendars to attend one of these meetings. The goal of the meetings (same for both meetings) is to set expectations, confirm the route, discuss sightseeing, who is camping/hoteling, answer questions, etc.
If you are on the fence about going, that is the time to get your questions answered and thereafter quickly make a decision. We need to firm things up so that we can make reservations.
Finally, if there are members who are just now catching up with this trip, there is still plenty of room so respond letting me know that you want to join the ride.
Everyone, sign up on the Event Page here.
-
Eric,
I’ll be out of town Feb 25,26. Will try to make the Zoom meeting on Feb 26 (I’ll be on eastern time zone).
-
We can make it up with a phone call if it doesn’t work.
-
-
Well I’m not ready for the MOA/Chief Joseph ride yet, but my bike is:
- Full 12,000 mile service including valve train check.
- New valve cover gaskets.
- Safety inspection.
- Cooling system flush & fill.
- New front & rear tires.
- New driveshaft.
Irv’s did the cooling system, tires, driveshaft, and safety inspection and I did everything else.
Now all I have to do is figure out what I want to take on a 4-week long trip and get it packed, and I’ll be ready. I should be able to accomplish that in the next 29 days, don’t you think?
-
Hey Eric,
I’m interested in going. Please save me a spot.
-
Chris Roady
Dave Eastly and I will camp with the club at the Rally but will be doing longer, non freeway routes to and from.
-
Dave Eastly
Update – because of work (yes, I still work) I’ll be taking the long way there with Chris, and the short way home. I’m looking forward to attending my sixth national!

Is anyone else going to attend the Brewfest ’24 event at the rally? Several club members went to a similar event at the rally in Tennessee in 2019, and had a great time.
-
YES, Dave. I’m signed up and I know Ric is. I put the word out to others with the sign up link. Cheers.
